Playground Border
When planning a play ground, do I need border timbers? Yes, borders offer several uses. A plastic playground border such as the widely popular Funtimber, help contain loose fill surfaces such as wood mulch, pea gravel, and sand. In addition, borders help define the area of play. Several models of border timbers are available, including colored timbers to enhance your play equipment selection. When selecting and pricing playground borders, make certain the timber includes a specially molded steel spike for easy installation. Some plastic border timbers are flexible, while the Funtimber offers rigid construction. Traditional wood timbers are not cheap in comparison. On a linear foot basis, money is saved by purchasing plastic playground borders. Not only are plastic timbers affordable, they will not splinter and have no sharp edges, unlike wood.

Although playground ramps are designed specifically for playground borders, there is a more affordable and discreet solution to accessibility. Shown above is a playground installer trick. To achieve the finished appearance, Filler Ends for Funtimbers and a Funtimber border are required. One border timber is buried at the entrance of the playground, and is connected by 2 existing timbers. This particular installation trick only works if the finished grade of the protective surfacing is level with the top of the buried playground timber. This trick is only recommended in play areas with a drainage system in place.
