Frequently Asked Questions

What makes picnic tables for schools different from residential models?

School picnic tables use commercial-grade materials like powder-coated steel frames and recycled plastic planks that withstand daily use by hundreds of students. Residential tables use lighter materials that crack under institutional use. School models also feature rounded edges, tamper-resistant hardware, and comply with ASTM F1487 safety standards for playground environments.

Do I need ADA wheelchair accessible picnic tables for my school?

Yes, the 2010 ADA Standards require at least 5% of your picnic tables to have wheelchair accessibility when you have 20 or more tables total. ADA accessible tables feature extended tops, knee clearance of 27 inches minimum, and require an accessible route with proper surfacing. Single table installations don't trigger ADA requirements, but including one shows good planning.

What size picnic tables work best for elementary schools versus high schools?

Elementary schools typically use 6-foot tables that seat 6-8 children comfortably, while high schools need 8-foot or 10-foot adult picnic tables to accommodate larger students. Adult tables feature 29-inch seat height versus 24-inch height on child models. Mixed-use schools often choose 8-foot tables as a compromise that works for all ages.

How much should schools budget for commercial picnic tables?

Budget $800-$1,500 per table for commercial-grade picnic tables for schools. Steel frame tables with recycled plastic tops start around $800 for 6-foot models, while 10-foot tables with premium materials reach $1,500. Factor in $200-$400 per table for professional installation if your maintenance staff can't handle anchor bolt placement into concrete pads.
