A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away ... there were a lot of fascinating Star Wars races! One of the most captivating components of the Star Wars universe is the biodiversity. Some are adorable, like tree-dwelling teddy bear Ewoks from Endor. Some are terrifying, like the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong. And some are just mystifying, like the elongated, graceful Kaminoans, who created the Republic clone troopers with their advanced cloning technology.
This infographic provides fun (or chilling) insight into 50 sentient alien species, the planets surface they hail from, and how long they typically live for. “Sentient” means that the Star Wars race has the ability to think intelligently, and it’s generally determined by the creature’s ability to reason, communicate verbally, and manipulate tools. In the Star Wars universe, there have been more than 20 million sentient species known in the galaxy. In the Milky Way, humans are the most populous and politically dominant species (at least, as far as we know).
But if Star Wars takes place a long time ago and in another galaxy, where did the humans of Star Wars originate from? In Star Wars mythology, many believe that Coruscant is the human home world; it’s speculated that the Zhell, Coruscant’s indigenous people and a little-known Star Wars race, were the ancestors of humans. However, there’s no consensus, and the true ancient human home world may have simply been lost to history.
